Day 2, and I’m home…

In #amwriting, Challenges on January 18, 2012 at 5:52 am

Writing this post a day early so I can spend tomorrow writing without internet. I have about 15 pages of handwritten notes to transcribe. Edits for Primal Hunger have dropped in my lap. Reading the book again was such a treat. Azros is hawt.

My list for January is simple:

* Primal Hunger edits *

*Finish A Familiar Kiss rewrites and submit to editor*

* Finish and polish Enraptured for submission *

Now onto other news. We’ve done it. We’ve moved from Alaska to Texas. :) I’ll be working my butt off to get more books out there for you guys. Thank you for the awesome comments, emails, and instant messages I’ve received. You guys are amazing.

To answer a few questions…

Yes, there will be more Kitchen Witch books. No dates yet, I’m afraid.

I won’t revisit the Bound universe. It was one of my first walks into paranormal, and I didn’t like the limits I put on the universe.

There’s been a lot of interest in a possible Hellhound series. Just wanted to let you know I’ve heard ya!  I’ve got several books planned for this year, so I’ll have to put it on the backburner for 2013.

There are several titles that used to be available through the now-closed publisher, Aspen Mountain Press. I have no interest in resubmitting them to a new publisher, but the plan is to edit and expand the stories to release as free reads on my website.

Keep the questions coming. :) I’ll answer them as soon as I can.

Keep Writing!

Writing Update

In #amwriting on November 12, 2011 at 9:44 pm

It’s a new day. I’m almost halfway through NaNo and am roughly 8K behind where I need to be. Am I worried? Nope. Why not? I’m making wicked progress on this book. A Familiar Kiss is sweet, sexy, and naughty. Don’t we love that?

I’m playing music that ramped me up when I was stationed in Turkey, and rocking out with headphones (SuperChef and the minions are trying to go to sleep).

I’m having such a wonderful time with this book. A Familiar Kiss is coming along. Feral Intent is calling me (I’m at that 10-12K point in AFK so it’s expected).

I hope those who are participating in NaNo are having a wonderful time! Keep pushing!!! This is the middle of the road. You can do it!

NaNoWriMo Prep: Tracking and Outline

In #amwriting, Goals on October 24, 2011 at 3:04 am

It’s day two of NaNoWriMo Prep and I’m just getting started. I’m 2k away from finishing my Christmas short: The Other Klaus.

That will give me another week or so to polish up and send my witch story. Hopefully I’ll hear back on my Primal Heat by November 1st.

So what will I do in preparation for the next novel?

  • Set up character sheets and world-building reminders for book 2 in the Sheon Wars series.
  • Work on my wordcount tracking system (I use a complex excel widget that I’ve been playing around with for years)
  • Outline the novel

I think that’s more than enough to keep me busy for a few days.

What about you? What preparations are you engaging in? If you’re not participating in NaNo this year, what other things do you have on the horizon?

Keep Writing!

NaNoWriMo Prep: Story Idea and Account Settings

In #amwriting, Goals on October 23, 2011 at 11:20 am

Hello Fellow NaNoWriMo-ers!

It’s NaNoWriMo prep-time!

This weekend was a great transitional one for me. I am in the process of closing out two projects, and have an additional full manuscript in the hands of an editor.

My family is already used to me writing at break-neck speed. This means November might be less traumatic than it has for the past few years.

Work has become far less hectic than ever. I’m also transitioning from my career to becoming a full-time writer. Before the nay-sayers have a go, let me just say…this isn’t because I want to do it now but because I have to…and that’s all I’ll say about it.

This weekend is tying up loose ends and preparation for NaNo. I’ve dropped by the site and registered for this year’s challenge. I changed my region and forum topic subscriptions. I popped in to see if there were any local groups, made a few contacts, and scoped out the site’s new design (verra nice, btw). Then came the part of writing my novel information.

There are so many possibilities. Plot bunnies fought with old stories I’d never got around to rewriting. Quite the conundrum. It wasn’t until I was combing through the archives of images on my dawnmontgomery.com site that I came across this little jewel:

There it was…a lightning strike of inspiration. Feral Intent was a story I’d planned a couple of years ago, but the plot never went anywhere. I kept the image, however, because I was pretty proud of how it turned out. Glad I did! Feral Intent is now the second book in the Sheon Wars series (Primal Heat was first). I was searching for a title, and there it was. How exciting!
